It was created as a means of reconstruction between the youths and the government (Decree no 24). NYSC was created for the purpose to rebuilding the nation from what it suffered during the civil war.

The main purpose of NYSC was to post graduates of different universities to states (other than their state of origin) to mix in with other members of different ethnic groups, cultures and societies. The main of this is to foster unity and promote ethnical diversity. Here are what you should know about NYSC.

The Four Cardinal Programs for NYSC (Schemes).

1. Orientation:

The National Youth Service Corps year starts with the orientation course which lasts for three weeks. Corps members are required to complete a number of challenging training sessions as part of their prearranged program to help them psychologically and physically ready for the hardships of the service year and part-year programs. This course consists of lectures, paramilitary training, leadership development, skill acquisition, and entrepreneurship training.

Every activity at the orientation camp is scheduled, and it is extremely structured. Every camp activity must be completed.

2. Primary Assignment:

Which is also known as Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) During this time, corps members are assigned to companies in the localities where their states of deployment are located in order to serve the country as corpers. How can I get good placement during NYSC?

3. Secondary Assignment/Community development service:

A time when corps members use their skills to provide unpaid, selfless service in order to better the communities where they are assigned. Similar to primary assignment, CDS is required of all corps members.

4. Passing out:

This is the final period of the program. This is a period in which corpers through their experience acquired in the scheme are also appraised and eventually discharged from NYSC.
